Impressed!

Well yesterday, I found something which tipped my designing world a little bit upside down. Jacqueline Mina OBE is a Jeweller who works mainly in gold and is part of the Crafts Council.

She uses incredibly thin gold- 0.18mm and fold forms them to create linear seams upon the metal surface. This is the kind of thing that I have been proposing to work on during my Goldsmith's design boarding- only mainly in [oxidised] silver. I have then proposed to highlight gold against the charcoal greys.

I love this work. It is so beautiful; the lines hold such fluidity and they illustrate movement to me. I particularly enjoy the contrasting lines which have been carved accross them too. ooh! I went all tingly when I saw it. I would LOVE to try this in gold. But alas, lets tackle pieces in silver first.

I also want to continue to practice different ways of fold forming as I feel that there is more from this technique than I have taken yet. I could try and explore this forming in paper, metal and stitch too if I needed to; just to understand it some more. I've taken to using cardboard to mock up samples in 3D.

We shall see!
